Helix Arena: Measurement and Training of Executive Functions

As potentially critical success factors in sport, cognitive functions are increasingly becoming the focus of science and practice.
In many sports, athletes have to extract visual information from a complex 360° environment under time pressure and make quick decisions in dynamic situations. In order to close the gap between the cognitive demands of sporting situations and psychological test procedures, tasks with complex, context-specific requirements are necessary. With the help of the Helix Arena (see illustration), a modern diagnostic and training tool available in the TSG ResearchLab, cognitive-psychological procedures can be carried out in a dynamic 360° environment.
The research focuses on the scientific quality criteria of these new procedures, the cognitive profiles of athletes of different sports, age groups and performance levels, and the effects of systematic cognitive training in a stimulating 360° environment on athletic performance.
