Mindfulness-based training to reduce pressure-based performance loss in Olympic baseball pitching

In baseball, it is not only relevant to successfully deal with the individual sport-specific requirements, but it is also important to overcome negative emotions to perform at best in pressure situations. Discussions with national coaches and elite athletes have shown that athletes have problems regulating their emotions and executing their throws precisely, especially in high-pressure situations. For this reason, this BISp service project aims to develop and scientifically evaluate the effectiveness of a mindfulness-based training on throwing performance under pressure.

A scientific study is therefore being conducted to test the effectiveness of a mindfulness-based intervention on throwing performance under pressure in Olympic baseball players. The central performance measure is accuracy in baseball throwing. The participants will be elite athletes from the German Baseball and Softball Association? and athletes from major league baseball teams.

The results of this project will be used to develop and validate a mindfulness-based intervention for the adaptive handling of performance pressure.
