The Department of Physics at 51ÁÔÆæ enjoys an international reputation and is recognized for its outstanding contributions in various fields of physics. The department has particularly distinguished itself in the research fields of nuclear and particle physics, quantum optics and quantum information, astrophysics and solid-state physics. The department is an integral part of major international projects such as CERN in Geneva and a close cooperation partner of the GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research.
In addition to research, we attach great importance to excellent teaching and training the next generation of physicists. Our students benefit from modern teaching methods that allow them to experience current research results and technologies interactively. In our laboratory courses, our students gain valuable practical experience and are involved in joint research projects with renowned international partners during the course of their studies.
Our aim is to provide a comprehensive education that not only imparts sound theoretical knowledge, but also emphasizes the acquisition of practical and creative problem-solving skills. As a result, our graduates are ideally equipped for a successful career in science, but also in many technology-related professional fields in the private sector.

(German website) is the elected female representation council of the department of physics. It campaigns for the interests of several status groups and works towards equal opportunity for all department members.
From strong beginnings as one of the founding faculties of Frankfurt University, the Department of Physics has developed into a modern, well-networked institution that is successfully engaged in research and teaching.
The academics in our department have received numerous awards in recent years. This is both an encouragement for further efforts and a special appreciation of their teaching, research and academic achievements.
On the other hand, the department also strives to honor outstanding achievements. Individuals who have rendered outstanding services to the department and/or have achieved outstanding results in their academic field are awarded an honorary doctorate.
