This depends on the number of credit points you have already earned (CPs).
At the time of application, at least 80% of the CPs to be achieved must be available – i.e. usually at least 144 CPs (out of 180 CP). The CP must be proven by a Transcript of Records issued by the Examination Office with a stated average grade.

If recently earned CPs have not yet been posted, please also submit a letter from the Registrar's Office stating that you have completed the credits but that they have not yet been posted.

The Bachelor's degree certificate must be submitted to the Master's Admission and International Admissions group in the original or as a certified copy by regular mail within the first semester at the latest, otherwise you will lose your entitlement to the study place.

If you are about to obtain or have obtained your undergraduate degree at a university in Germany and use the upload function, an online application via uni-assist e.V. is sufficient.

No, please inquire about the correct application method (Central Application Portal for Master's Degree Programs or via the department) and apply accordingly. The submission of an application for a change of subject is not necessary and also not sufficient.
The "Transcript of Records" (ToR) is an overview of your studies and is usually issued by the Examination Office. This documents your previous academic achievements, stating the courses and modules you have attended, your ECTS credits (CPs) and your grades. Furthermore, the total number of CPs achieved so far and a provisional average grade should be shown on it. If this information is missing, please submit an additional confirmation from the responsible examination office.
Please note that the online applications for the individual degree programs will only be opened at uni-assist during the respective application deadlines – it is not possible to apply in advance. The application deadlines can be found on the respective information pages of the individual

If your Bachelor's degree is unrelated to the subject, a decision will be made on a case-by-case basis based on the courses you have taken in the Bachelor's program. Please submit the Transcript of Records. If necessary, you can also contact the academic advisory service (Studienfachberatung) in advance. You can find the contact details on the information pages of the individual degree programs.
For Master's degree programs with German as the language of instruction, the DSH-2 certificate (or equivalent certificate, such as TestDaF 4444) must be submitted by the application deadline.
It is not possible to enroll without passing the DSH-2 exam (or equivalent certificate), even if you receive a subject-specific admission to the Master's program.
From level B1 onwards, you can apply for the DSH preparation course at Goethe University Frankfurt. You can find more information about the required German language skills

For purely English-language Master's programs, no knowledge of German is required, but basic knowledge is strongly recommended.

Admission and Enrollment

Your documents will be formally checked by uni-assist e.V. and, if complete, delivered to the university. You will be informed about the delivery etc. by uni-assist e.V. by e-mail. The applications will then be reviewed and evaluated by the department's examination board. The evaluation ultimately results in a ranking according to which admission is granted.

For degree programs with restricted admission, the letters of admission are usually available via the university portal about four to eight weeks after the application deadline.

If you have not been admitted in the main procedure, you have the option of still being admitted through a possible follow-up procedure (Nachrückverfahren). You will automatically take part in the follow-up procedure if there is one and you have not been admitted in the main procedure.

Rejection notices are only to be issued after the conclusion of the entire procedure (usually end of September/beginning of October or end of March/beginning of April) via the university portal.
No. It is important that you regularly check your e-mails of the address used for your application (including spam folders) or check the status of your application in the university portal. In case of admission, please follow the further steps within the deadline stated on the letter of admission (such as online enrollment, transfer of the semester fee, sending in the enrollment documents by e-mail).
No, the deadline stated on the letter of admission is binding and usually cannot be extended. If this expires, the letter of admission becomes invalid in accordance with § 19 para. 2 of the Hesse Study Place Allocation Ordinance (Studienplatzvergabeverordnung) and you lose your entitlement to the study place.
However, you may be able to withdraw from enrollment. To do so, please fill out the corresponding application form and send it to us with the necessary documents (copy of the payment of the semester fee, master data sheet/certificates of enrolment and (unvalidated) Goethe Card). More detailed information and the application form can be found on the website of the Registrar's Office.
No, the first step is online enrollment. You will then be asked to submit further documents and transfer the semester fee.
You are welcome to submit your documents by e-mail, personal enrolment is not required.
The admission letters of a degree program are sent out at the same time. If you have not yet received one, you will most likely not have received admission in the main selection procedure.
If there are still places vacant after the end of the acceptance period, a follow-up procedure (Nachrückverfahren) will be carried out, in which you will automatically participate with your application. Rejection notices are only available in the university portal after the entire procedure, including all possible succession procedures, has been completed.
After you have uploaded the passport photo during online enrollment and have submitted your other documents for enrollment in full, your card will be produced and sent to you a short time later by regular mail together with your login data for your student account, provided that you have entered an address in Germany when applying.

If you have provided an address abroad, you can pick up the card at the Study Service Point after your arrival.

No, unfortunately this is not possible.
If there are still places available after the end of the main procedure, there will be a follow-up procedure (Nachrückverfahren) in which all applicants who have applied by the deadline will automatically participate.

If you have not submitted your application by the deadline, we regret that we will not be able to consider your application at a later date. However, you may be interested in the lottery process, for which you will register separately.
Whether there will be a lottery for a program can only be determined after the lottery has closed. If there are still places available at the end of the process, they will be awarded by lottery. You will need to register separately for this.

Please note the following: If you are allocated a place in a Master's degree program by lottery, you will need the recognition of the admission requirements by the responsible department in accordance with the applicable Master's Regulations for enrollment. We therefore recommend that you contact the responsible department in advance or parallel to the application through the lottery procedure regarding the recognition of your admission requirements! Unfortunately, no enrollment can take place without this recognition.
Further information and the link to register can be found here.
By the end of the first month of the respective semester (summer semester April 30, winter semester October 31). If you withdraw within these deadlines, you will be considered not enrolled.

To withdraw, please submit the following documents:
  • Completed "Application for withdrawal from enrollment"
  • Proof of payment of the semester fee (bank statement)
  • Complete semester documents (master data sheet, certificates of enrolment)
  • Goethe Card; Please note that this may not be validated in the event of withdrawal after the beginning of the semester. Please do not validate your Goethe-Card until you are certain that you will be staying at 51ÁÔÆæ!

In addition, an administrative fee of €30 will be charged for the withdrawal, and the administrative fee included in the semester fee will also be retained! Therefore, the amount of the semester fee to be refunded to you will be reduced by a total of €80.
Further information and the application can be found
No, if you are currently enrolled at 51ÁÔÆæ, you will keep your current Goethe Card. The matriculation number will also be retained. After timely acceptance of the study place (online enrollment and submission of the signed enrollment application), only the enrollment or re-enrollment in the Master's program takes place.
Despite the re-registration hold, you must transfer the semester fee on time, otherwise the late fee will have to be paid. Your re-registration hold will be removed as soon as you e.g. have submitted their Bachelor's degree certificate or proven that you have fulfilled the study requirements.
If you are provisionally admitted, you must submit your undergraduate degree within the first semester by March 31 for the winter semester or September 30 for the summer semester to the "Studium Lehre Internationales" department (Master's Admissions and International Admissions Group). Please send a scan of the original certificate by e-mail or present the original certificate in person.
In an NC procedure, the grade threshold (N.C.) is not determined in advance, but is a result of the process. There are no predetermined minimum scores in such a process. Only the number of places to be allocated is fixed. The N.C. depends on the number of applications received and the grades of the applicants.
For undergraduate programs, the results of previous application procedures are published as a rough guide. However, since almost all master's programs use other criteria in addition to grades to determine the rankings, no N.C. can be published here.
The current admission numbers can be found in the bylaws for determining admission numbers.
