Welcome to the Faculty of Philosophy and History!

Our Faculty comprises four institutes and departments. These are the Institute of Philosophy with nine professors, the Department of History (including Ancient History) with a total of 11 professors, the Department of History Didactics with one professor and the Institute of Ethnology with five professors. Faculty members are also actively involved at interdisciplinary level in the Frobenius Institute, the Fritz Bauer Institute with Germany’s first chair for Holocaust research, the Research Training Group “Value and Equivalence”, the Collaborative Research Centre SFB1095 “Discourses of Weakness and Resource Regimes”, the Institute for Social Research, the Research Unit “Selecting Personnel for Key Societal Roles” as well as in the Frankfurt Humanities Research Centre. The different thematic foci and scientific contextualization of the individual subjects are mirrored in broad cooperation both within and outside the faculty. The range of subjects offered (currently 15) comprises a large number of Bachelor and Masters programmes as well as teaching degrees in Philosophy and History. Research and teaching at the faculty cover a wide thematic spectrum and are characterized by extensive collaboration with German and international partners. The faculty’s success in securing external funding is also worth noting.
