The Institute of Political Science at the Technische Universität Darmstadt and the Department of Political Science and International Studies at Virginia Tech established the graduate exchange program in 2008. Since then, the program has become an integral part of the teaching and research relationship between the faculties at TUD and VT. The program offers two students from each campus the opportunity to gain international work experience by taking classes in fall, serving as teaching assistants, and conducting research for their own thesis.
